Cannabis has been used as medicine for thousands of years. The first written account of cannabis being used as medicine is from China in 15th century b.c. The character for cannabis is an ideogram of plants drying in a shed. Cannabis was used as medicine in ancient India, as referenced by the Atharaveda, as one of the Five Sacred Plants. In America, cannabis preparations were prescribed by doctors until 1937 when the Marijuana Tax Act was passed by Congress.

Humanity has a long history of using cannabis to treat a variety of ailments. It is only within the last one hundred years that cannabis has gone from medicine to prohibited substance. In the last twenty years, people have consistently voted to allow for medicinal use of this ancient herb. More states are allowing medicinal use of cannabis in defiance of the federal blanket prohibition of the plant.

At Peak Extracts, we reach back to a time when cannabis was treated as just another tool in the peoples’ pharmacy.
